I was in love with Budapest by noon on my first day. We planned our trip in winter to take advantage of Cheap Airline Tickets to Europe during the low-season.
For part of our trip, it was too cold to snow, then we had a few blizzards, but the weather didn’t keep us from having fun. The hotels and restaurants are prepared for the cold weather with plenty of heat, so the cold wasn’t an issue at all. Budapest has so many amazing tourist sites; we didn’t have enough time to see them all. Budapest is actually made up of two sections, Buda and Pest, which are separated by the Danube River. Pest is the area where people party at night. It also has the wonderful Marketplace, which not only has an incredible selection of meats and paprika (a local specialty), but a wide variety of clothes - in case you forget to bring enough warm clothing - and souvenirs.
The Buda side of the Danube has amazing spas and tourist destinations. I enjoyed Gellért Hill, which we climbed in a blizzard, to reach the highest point in Budapest and to see the Citadel fortress and Liberation Monument. But, my favorite was the Labyrinth, a 1200 meter long system of caves and cellars under the Buda Castle. I recommend it highly - once you’re out of and a couple streets away from the Labyrinth, you can stop at the incredibly amazing world-famous Gerbeaud, with its fantastic selection of delicate cakes and tasty ice creams.
The people of Budapest, for the most part, speak fairly good English and are extremely helpful and kind, so if you ever need help finding a destination, there are plenty of people to ask. I cannot possibly convey in words how much I fell in love with the country and am so thankful we were able to find cheap airline tickets to Europe to make our trip affordable.

Bargain Airfare was not a Bargain
After getting myself and family to Florida from North Carolina for a five day vacation with bargain airfare, I found myself wishing we had just stayed home or gone camping an hour away at Green Mountain.
We arrived at the airport and stood in a long line at the check-in counter. While in line, we were re-directed to the kiosk to get our boarding passes. It was a bit of a hassle, but so far, so good.
After our first flight, we had a 2 1/2 hour layover in Charlotte. I have three children ages from ten to sixteen. I purchased bargain airfare to save money even though there was a long layover. I didn't realize to pass the time during the layover, the kids would go to to Dunkin' Donuts and buy soda and bagels, then go into the newsstand and buy a stack of gossip magazines. Or that I would want to buy a newspaper.
A half-hour before boarding, the departure board flashed that our flight was canceled. I approached the counter and was told that we would be re-directed to a flight that would leave in about 4 more hours.

Be flexible with your dates: often a day before or after your preferred travel dates will be less expensive. There are few good deals for last minute trips. The lowest airfares online can usually be found no more than 3 weeks before your departure for domestic travel and at least a month for international trips.
